I am convinced, that software projects funded by public money, should make their code free to use and publicly available by default. I understand that people do not like the idea in the beginning, due to reasons such as “then anyone can copy the code and just use it, but it is funded by us people”. or “does this not reveal security flaws?". I do not see the problem with the first point.

I just came across the beautiful website of Our World in Data. It is just amazing to see how well each topic is covered, which they present on the homepage. Also, they even try to convince others to use their resources on their own websites. With regards to COVID-19, they state: “Our goal at Our World in Data is to bring together the best data and build the visualization tools that allows you to understand the spread of the pandemic.
