DIN for free, SE biases, and Tableau COVID-19 data
Today, the DIN, the German standard organization, decided to make standards for medical equipment available for free. In general, am wondering, why people need to pay to be able to use those norms and standards, but that is another and complex discussion.
Also, as I am a software engineer, and obviously, a little nerdy, I like to share an article with you about cognitive biases in software development. Enjoy reading!
Remote games
Due to (physical) social distancing, we search for ways to connect with our loved ones. In recent weeks, I had lots of fun playing games remotley, either via a browser or mobile app. Hence, I want to introduce two of those games now, in particular Houseparty and Jackbox.
Houseparty - A mobile let you video chat with friends, and play games at the same time. For example, a game similar to cards against humanity, or a drawing game, where your friends need to guess what you are drawing.
Jitsi
Since people work as much as possible from home due to Covid-19, and apply social-distancing, video-conferencing becomes more important to connect with your colleagues, friends and families.
Therefore, I want to present the “Multi-platform open-source video conferencing” tool Jitsi. You can just start a call, give the call a name and share the URL with everyone you want to participate in the call. All software is open-source, and client-software is available for all platforms.
Niksen
Did you ever here about the Dutch word “niksen”? Me neither, suprisingly. It stands for doing nothing.
I just came across an article, called the case for doing nothing. The idea is, to stop being busy, as we usually (excluding the current and upcoming months ..) are very busy. But sometimes it is good, to just do nothing, and to be. To quote the article: “More practically, the idea of niksen is to take conscious, considered time and energy to do activities like gazing out of a window or sitting motionless.
The Science Of Well-Being
Hi all, I hope you are all doing well. I think I can speak for everybody, that nobody expected that things would change around us so quickly. Let us hope we come out of this situation fast and safe. But I think lots of people realize that we cannot continue normally, as this was the problem.
I decided that from now on I want to contribute to make the world a better place.
